Battlefield tours - Day 1: - Port Elizabeth

View Horse Memorial and PAG War Memorial in St George’s Park. Travel by road from Port Elizabeth.

View Uitenhage Concentration Camp and discuss concentration camp issue. View Smuts’ Commando graves at Kariega Siding.

Discuss Boer invasions of the Cape Colony. View Jansenville Fort. Proceed to Aberdeen and visit site where Captain Oates, “that very gallant gentleman” of Scott’s Antarctic Expedition, was wounded.

Visit Jack Baxter’s grave and discuss execution of Boer prisoners for wearing khaki. Proceed to Graaff-Reinet for night stop.

Battlefield tours - Day 2: - Graaff Reinett

Visit Bouwershoek where Lotter’s Commando was captured on 5 September 1901. Discuss the execution of Cape Rebels.

Visit the Gideon Scheepers Memorial and discuss his capture, and subsequent execution. Visit Burger Memorial. Discuss guerrilla operations in district from vantage point in Valley of Desolation National Park.

Visit Andries Pretorius Monument and discuss role of Eastern Cape Dutch colonists in the Great Trek and the subsequent establishment of the Boer republics.

Travel by road to Cradock. Stop at Bethesda Road and discuss skirmishes in the vicinity on 18 February 1901 and 10 August 1901.

Visit the graves of Cape Rebels in the Cradock cemetery. Visit Modderfontein, the site of the skirmish between the 17th Lancers and Smuts’ Commando on 17 September 1901. Night stop at Blanco Nature Reserve.

Battlefield tours - Day 3: - Stormberg

Battlefield tour of Stormberg, the first of the Black Week battles on 9 December 1900. Night stop in Black Eagle Nature Reserve.(Picture on the right of Lieutenant General Gatacre, known as "Backacher" to the troops.)

Battlefield tours - Day 4:- Aliwal North

Proceed by road to Aliwal North. Discuss skirmish between Fouche’s Commando and Connaught Rangers near Jamestown on 14 July 1901.

Visit Aliwal North Concentration Camp. Proceed to Bloemfontein.

Visit Vrouemonument and War Museum of the Boer Republics.
